This term classes 1 and 2 are learning through an ‘under the sea’ theme. Today we began reading a story about the Blue Whale, the largest living creature on our planet. The Blue Whale can measure up to a staggering 30 metres in length. We discovered that it is the same length as a truck, a digger, a boat, a car, a bicycle, a motorcycle, a van and a tractor – all lined up. We’ve been outside this morning measuring this on the yard and couldn’t believe it was all of the children together holding hands!
New PE Socks for all
Classes 1 and 2 have enjoyed their first session of PE for the Spring term. The children have practised many skills including throwing, catching and balancing. They have been trying out our new PE socks to help with hygiene and safety.
Return date for children
We hope that everyone has had a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday and we are looking forward to seeing all the children from Cockton Hill Nursery and Cockton Hill Infants’ School on TUESDAY 8th JANUARY 2019 for the first day of the Spring Term.
Thank you, Anne Graham
Nativity Performance
The EYFS children from nursery and reception finished their nativity performances with a flurry of snow this afternoon. The children have been absolutely fantastic, having worked hard to learn songs, record their speaking parts and learn their stage directions. The staff are incredibly proud of their performances and we’re sure that you as parents are too. We would like to extend our thanks to the parents for your support in the build up and during the performances.
Christmas and Winter in EYFS
This week we have added some winter and Christmas themed items to our continuous provision. The children have been very busy writing letters to Santa, looking through catalogues and carefully cutting out the items they would like on their Christmas lists before labelling them. We have spent some time looking at a range of polar animals and sea creatures in our small world area. The children have enjoyed naming the animals and researching different types of whales and sharks for example.
Information for parents
Please view the attached link for information on the morning and end of the day routines.
Remembrance Assembly
The children took part in a Remembrance assembly to mark 100 years since World War 1 ended. Each child made their own poppy which they placed in the shape of 100 as an act of remembrance. “We recognise the importance of teaching the children the meaning of the poppy and Remembrance Day so we wanted to create an opportunity where they could reflect on this.”
Shoebox Appeal
Thank you for your kind donations of gifts and money. The shoeboxes have now been collected. We were able to send 30 boxes to the Wear Valley Christian Centre. Hopefully in the New Year we will find out which country they were taken to.
Nursery ‘Stay and Play’
It was lovely to welcome some of our parents and families for our Stay and Play sessions today. The children enjoyed showing what they do in Nursery, demonstrating their skills and independence. We all had fun taking part in dough disco, exploring pumpkins, and doing lots of activities indoors and outdoors.
Year 1 visit to Low Barns
Today has been our Year 1 visit to Low Barns, it has been a great trip for the children to experience some fantastic activities. We even managed to have lovely weather. You can see some of the things we have done in the photographs.
