On Tuesday 16th October the Year 2 children visited Durham Cathedral. We all had a fantastic time learning about the story of St Cuthbert, some children even acted out different parts. We then had our lunch in the cloisters, followed by another walk around the cathedral to look at the wonderful stained glass windows. The children were also able to draw and colour their very own stained glass windows.
Final week of half term
It has been a fantastic start to our new school year with our new starters settling in so well and getting used to being part of our school. The children all looked so smart in assembly this morning in their uniform.
We have an exciting week ahead with school trips for Year 2 to Durham Cathedral and Year 1 to Low Barnes. Reception will welcome back Miss Dixon who returns to teach Class 2 while the Nursery have ‘Stay and Play’ sessions.
Christmas Shoebox Appeal 2018
We are collecting items for the Christmas Shoebox Appeal again this year.
All of the children enjoyed learning about the appeal in a special assembly, on Wednesday 10th October, led by Mrs Brown from the Wear Valley Christian Centre.
Pupils and teachers will be filling the boxes straight after the half term holiday. If you would like to make a donation please send items into school by Friday 2nd November 2018.
Thank you.
Macmillan Coffee Afternoon and Curriculum Display
Another fantastic afternoon – Macmillan Coffee Afternoon and Curriculum Display.
It was amazing to see and talk to so many friends and family in our school. As always we really appreciate the support that you all give us on our open days.
Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers. The raffle will be drawn in assembly on Friday.
Water Issues
You maybe aware of water supply issues in DL14. School has limited water facilities including toilets. Parents are welcome to collect children early.
Thank you, Anne Graham – Headteacher
Poetry Day in School
The children have had a really interesting and enjoyable day with Bernard Young, a performance poet and Judith Forster from Durham County Council Road Safety Department. The children have been using their creative writing skills to produce poems which they then performed to the whole school in assembly. Elsie, our “lollipop lady” was thrilled that one was especially about her. Their creativity, imagination and confidence are wonderful!
How we wish that Elsie was here.
If you are going to McDonald’s for an extra treat.
Better take care when you cross Tindale Street.
It’s very very busy and it’s very very wide.
It’s not safe to cross when the cars fly by.
Stand on the path ’til the road is clear.
How we wish that Elsie was here.
She will step out first with her lollipop sign.
She’ll stop all the cars and we’ll be fine.

We opened our school this morning, Wednesday 19th September, to all our parents. So many people came into see their child’s new classroom and meet the staff who teach in that year group. The children were thrilled that their parents took part in their school day.
