We have had a wonderful two weeks in Reception exploring Diwali, Bonfire Night and learning about India. The children have engaged in a range of learning including moulding clay to make diva lamps, tasting Indian food and painting firework pictures outside. We have explored the story of “Rama and The Demon King” and “A Day in India”. The boys and girls have remembered many key facts about Diwali and India and it has been very interesting listening to their questions and finding out the answers together.
Seasonal Change – Autumn
It’s Autumn time and Reception class have been observing seasonal change in the outdoor environment. They have returned their autumn treasures that they found on their autumn walks with their families. They have used them to create their own display in the classroom.
Hoopstarz
Reception have enjoyed an exciting PE session today with Hoopstarz. They were amazed by all the wonderful things you can do with a hoop!
Halloween
Class 1 and 2 have enjoyed lots of Halloween activities this week. They have been busy making recipes for spooky potions outside, carving pumpkins, rolling pumpkins in our pumpkin race and hammering golf tees into them to make interesting patterns. The Halloween disco was a lovely way to end our busy half term!
Harvest – Being Thankful
As part of our learning about Harvest time the children and teachers have been thinking about what they are thankful for. This was a lovely circle time where we thought of many people, places and things that we are very thankful to have.
Beebot – Programming and debugging
In Year 1 we have been planning and debugging programs for Barry the Beebot who visited our classrooms. We carefully planned Barry’s route to make sure he didn’t bump into any walls. We then programmed Barry to follow directions. If we found that we needed to change the route we quickly did this, this is called debugging!
Halloween in Nursery
The children had a great time celebrating Halloween in Nursery. They dressed up in costumes, looked at spooky stories, carved pumpkins, made magical potions and made some delicious pumpkin soup.

Halloween in Year 2
Today we made spooky lanterns! The children thoroughly enjoyed carving the pumpkins and decorating biscuits. The children particularly enjoyed playing with the sticky, gooey pulp which we carved out! Lots more fun Halloween related activities coming up!
Giant Leaf Hedgehogs
Year 1 have been reading the story of ‘The Hodgeheg’ and used this as inspiration for a giant autumnal artwork. Whilst out looking for signs of the changing seasons the children noticed that lots of the leaves were beginning to turn brown like a Hedgehog. We decided to see if we could make our very own hedgehogs by gathering lots of fallen leaves and placing them within a chalk outline. The children enjoyed gathering the leaves, and made lots of fantastic comments and observations on the shapes and colours of the leaves they found!
