Our year 2 children have been learning about materials and how reactions can occur with different combinations. We put a tube of Mentos into a bottle of coke and predicted what would happen. The children were right! A super cola fountain occurred! So exciting to watch and inspiring for our young scientists.
Gussie Goes Bonkers
The theme in year 2 this half term is robots. The children have been listening to stories about robots including Pie Corbett’s Gussie Goes Bonkers. The children used drama to re-enact the story. They remembered the sequence of events well and this was a lovely hook for this topic.
Design Technology in Class 6
Class 6 used a range of materials including card and corrugated plastic to make their own reports. Their designs were all unique and the children were able to cut and join and used googly eyes, pipe cleaners and other items to finish off their designs. This was an exciting activity and all of the children engaged enthusiastically.
Autumn Art Work
Class 5 have been creating some autumn artwork using things from our outdoor area. The children worked in small groups and enjoyed exploring outdoors. They were able to find a range of different objects and were very creative when making their fantastic pieces of art work.
Winding Mechanisms
We have designed winding mechanisms then made them using card, string, skewers and tape. Our designs included a wishing well design and a castle with an opening door. The children loved seeing their finished models and they decorated their models to a high standard.
Halloween in Year 2
Today we made spooky lanterns! The children thoroughly enjoyed carving the pumpkins and decorating biscuits. The children particularly enjoyed playing with the sticky, gooey pulp which we carved out! Lots more fun Halloween related activities coming up!
Egg Challenge – Class 6
Year 2 children completed the Egg Challenge. They learned that when you stand barefoot on a carton of eggs, your foot is big enough to spread the pressure of your weight around to all of the eggs, and their arched structure keeps them from breaking. We did however have a few incidents! The best part was cooking the eggs that didn’t crack and we all enjoyed a healthy snack of scrambled eggs on toast!
Archery – Year 1 and 2
Year 1 and Year 2 children had a good day learning Archery skills. They learnt how to use a bow and arrow safely, how to stand and how to draw the bow. All of the children had lots of turns and gained points when they hit the target. The children loved the competitive side of the activity!
Toasting Marshmallows
The children gain so much from working in the wildlife area. We talked about how to stay safe around the fire and how they must never play with matches. The children toasted marshmallows and drank hot chocolate. They enjoyed being outside in the fresh air. A lovely way to spend an autumn afternoon.
Taste Test
Today in class 5 we tried some different foods. The children discussed the different flavours and if the food was bitter, spicy, sour, salty or sweet. The whole class voted on their favourite food and each child made a graph to show how popular each flavour was.
